I recently started working more closely with Laura just by chance with FEC testing. Her results are always prompt and I am confident that her results are accurate and reliable. The accuracy of the FEC tests performed by Laura for my filly were even proven accurate by the lab at Oregon State University! I'm not sure you can get much better than that. Equine Wellness Services has been proactive in looking out for my filly and her well being. I went through 7 farriers in a decade before I met Bob and Laura. I called them in desperation after I had the last farrier take the front shoes off of my horse; she was in pain on the dry, solid ground of summer, and all he could recommend were more shoes. I had tried to have her go barefoot for years with little success (she is a PSSM mare and also insulin resistant). The shoes didn’t help with any issues she was having, and in fact just created new ones. Bob and Laura immediately set to work fitting her for boots to keep her comfortable and trimming her hooves with a natural trim that worked for her. About three years into working with them, and Laura consistently advising me to get my easy keeper horse’s weight down, Sage had a pretty severe founder in August of 2014. As it happened, Bob showed up unannounced the day I found her lame; he was there to check on her new glue-on shoes we were trying to help increase sole depth. He stopped by almost daily for the next week after we confirmed it was a founder with x-rays. It was a long road back, but I ride her almost daily now and she is barefoot and gallops down rocky trails with her Easy Boots or barefoot on grass and dirt. If my horse ever has any other big health crisis, I want Bob and Laura on my side. They listen to the human as much as the horse. They truly have the horse’s best interests in mind, and they pair that with caring for the owner’s needs as well. They are my heroes, and I wholeheartedly recommend them.

I would highly recommend Bob to anyone for their horse's trims. He's very calm and caring with the horses, whether it's a young horse who just can't stay still or an older horse who can't keep their hooves up for very long. He will take however long it takes to get the job done right.
My TWH mare had extremely flat soles and run down heels when Bob started working on her. She now has a little concavity in her soles to make her more comfortable on gravel, and her heels are where they should be. Bob is willing to think outside the box for problem hooves, and actually used a synthetic polymer to "make" a heel for Lady until we could get her heels to where they should be.
Bob has also used the Easycare glue on shoes to help a rescue horse I had who had ringbone and metabolic syndrome be more comfortable in his last days.

We have a small Norwegian Fjord horse farm, and have kept our horses barefoot for many years, my husband trimming them as best he could following some of the books on the subject. But we knew things were just not right with the horses’ hoof balance and shape. Since we have had Bob trimming our horses for the past few years, we have had a huge amount of peace of mind that they are now comfortable and balanced (not to mention having gorgeous hooves now!). A couple of years ago, a new young (large!) gelding joined our herd.. he’d been very poorly shod, had long toe cracks in both front feet, badly under-run heels and flared hoof walls, and was probably well on the way to becoming permanently unsound. Bob went right to work on him, telling us it would probably take a year for the damage to grow out, with regular trimming. It did indeed take a solid year, but this gelding’s feet are now beautiful and healthy. Bob kept him sound and comfortable during the entire remediation. It’s such a pleasure to watch Bob work; we have learned so much about equine hoof health and structure from him, and all our horses trust his calm, kind and caring approach to working with them. Bob and Laura are constantly researching, and provide invaluable services and advice for many aspects of horse husbandry: hoof care, fecal and hay testing, hoof boots, natural care products, etc. We don’t know what we would do without them and are forever grateful for their professionalism and friendship.

Over the years I've always tried to do the best I can for my horses, but it wasn't until I got introduced to Laura Cohen and Equine Wellness Services that I got on the right path for better nutrition and consequently better health for my entire herd. I had always known that nutrition is the basis for health and for good feet, but it's more than buying nice looking hay. So much more. I'd been advised by others about nutrition and read as much as I could about hay and prepared feeds and supplements; but I had no basis for my decisions other than someone elses opinions. Laura educated me on the need to balance essential vitamins and minerals and to start by knowing what is provided by their forage (or lacking in same). Not only do you need to know what is in your horses diet, but you need to know what they require for good health and what it takes to balance those essential nutrients. Laura has that knowledge and she's helped to educate me on nutrition, soundness, parasite control and weight management. And their combined expertise considers every aspect of equine well being. I can't adequately express my gratitude for the help and guidance that they've provided me. Their passion for horses is what guides them in learning all that they can about caring for horses and their dedication to wellness is their motivation for teaching others. Bob and Laura are a crucial part of my horses’ wellness team. I have great peace of mind, knowing that I can rely on them to immediately address any concern I have. My horses have been barefoot for many years, but under Bob’s meticulous care, they have gone from elongated and flat with frogs that were narrow and constantly falling apart, to wild horse hooves – round, concave, with healthy frogs. Bob is endlessly patient with my horses, and mid-trim, will take them for a walk around the paddock or to get a drink – whatever it takes to keep them content. I greatly appreciate his concern for their emotional well-being, as well as their physical health. Bob and Laura are constantly adding to their storehouse of knowledge, and share it generously. Laura is always available to answer questions on nutrition, hay analysis, supplements. I have incorporated many of her suggestions into my feeding program and greatly appreciate her willingness to share her knowledge. I get a lot of compliments on my horses – they glow with health. I had my horses trimmed by Bob a week or so ago and I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated his work and his kindness to my horses. I have had years of different farrier's coming out and just manhandle my horses to get done fast. I am sure you get this a lot but I truly was amazed by Bob's horse sense!
He not only took a crazy amount of time to gently trim my arthritic mare and let her rest when she asked him, he also talked with me about how the horses hooves worked and the importance of letting the hoof be in its natural state, then he tried to figure out why my old mare favored one leg over the other. He proceeded to want to show me a few things on my unbroke yearling to help her get closer to accepting her hooves handled and was so patient with her even when she wanted nothing to do with him for a long time. He even got kicked and bit by her at one point but it didn't even phase him.
Never in my life have I seen someone so patient and love their job. I appreciate his hard work and commitment to the horses. Thank you to both of you!

Laura and Bob have been working with my horses for 4 years. Bob has trimmed one of my fillies since birth. They are so skilled at working with young horses and horses that may have had bad experiences in the past. Bob is always patient which means my horses are relaxed and happy through the entire trim.
With their slow and consistent trimming they have made amazing changes with my mare coming off of years in shoes. The heel expansion and healthy foot growth to deny over the months. I was amazed at how much her movement improved as well. My fillies feet have always been healthy and well balanced. I have yet to run into problems with cracks or chips.
It is a pleasure working with Laura and Bob. Not only is Bob a talented trimmer but they are a wealth of knowledge and always willing to help!
